The Fringe Cabaret: Back to School Special
August 26, 2017

Summer is coming to a close and with September just around the corner it’s time to celebrate that special time of year.  A time filled with pencils and chalk, backpacks and spitballs, a time to reconnect with friends you haven’t seen in a while and share stories of your summer adventures.  That’s right!  It’s Fringe again!  And our esteemed faculty of Fringe artists have prepared a pre-Fringe refresher course to make sure you get the most out of your Fringe experience.  Audiences will be encouraged to challenge their skills at laughter, applause, paying attention, and socializing in the lobby.

The Merkin Sisters

SNAFU & Stephanie Morin-Robert

Wednesday Sept. 20 at 7:00pm at Performance Works

Daughters of the now-defunct Merkin Empire, these formerly-famous sisters leave the house for the first time in a decade as they risk everything to present their Ultimate Work of Art. Think Olsen Twins meets Grey Gardens meets the Muppets.

“In a show that goes where few, if any, shows have gone before, their skits swing from superbly graceful to absolutely bizarre.” —The Orlando Sentinel

Give It Up

Morgan Brayton
Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:00pm at Performance Works

Morgan Brayton has it all! Well, she has questions about it all. Where is her husband Scott Baio? When is SNL going to call? What happened to her big break? Did she miss it? Is this it? Will there be snacks? Outlandish characters and true stories combine for big laughs from this award-winning but still only moderately famous comedian.

"A fiercely funny, but biting look at 'the industry' that is film ... Brayton delivers with panache and incredible timing."
—Entertainment Vancouver

Shirley Gnome: Taking It Up The Notch

Heartichoke Arts
Friday Sept. 22 at 7:00pm at Performance Works

Vancouver's very own internationally acclaimed, award-winning cabaret comedian Shirley Gnome sings explicitly honest songs about sex and human nature. A country, folk, soft-rock and pop cabaret mashed with wickedly witty lyrics and dark social commentary—with a dollop of empowerment and a dash of sequins. The show chronicles her attempt to write songs that might make the world a better place—raunch in tact.

"Hilarious... Gnome is a disarmingly likeable performer." —Chortle (UK)
