Cultchivating the Fringe Award
From the Fringe to The Cultch, the “Cultchivating the Fringe Award” is given to a show that demonstrates unique potential and rewards it with a run at The Cultch.
The Georgia Straight Critics’ Choice Award
The Georgia Straight’s theatre critics will nominate five outstanding shows, and award one with this coveted prize!
Joanna Maratta Award
In honour of the Vancouver Fringe Festival’s founder, this award goes to an artist who best exhibits the original founding spirit of the Fringe.
BC Touring Council Award
The winner of this award receives the chance to showcase their work at Pacific Contact, BC Touring Council’s annual tradeshow and booking conference for the performing arts.
Mollie Bradley Award
Selected by jury, this cash award is given to either the winner of the Joanna Maratta Award or the BC Touring Council Award and provides financial help for travel, marketing, and other professional development. This award is given in honour of Fringe Board member Jim Sibley’s mother-in-law, Mollie.
The Fringe New Play Prize
Won by Sara Vickruck and Anais West in 2018 for their show Poly Queer Love Ballad, Playwrights Theatre Centre (PTC) is now accepting submissions for the 2019 Prize. PTC supplies dramaturgy and more for the winning script while the Fringe offers a guaranteed Mainstage spot in the 2019 Vancouver Fringe Festival. Artistic Risk Award
Selected by jury and financially supported by the Fringe’s Board of Directors, this award is given to an artist or group of artists for risk-taking in Fringe theatre.
Volunteer Choice Award
Fringe volunteers will vote to determine their favourite show!
Spirit of the Fringe Award
This award goes to the artist, or artists, that the Fringe staff feel most exemplify the Fringe values of collaboration, community, and camaraderie, with other artists, staff, volunteers, and patrons. The winner will be awarded something spirited... or a sofa.
The TD Award (In Development)
In partnership with Neworld Theatre and generously sponsored by TD Financial, the Fringe is developing a new Award to honour voices from communities that have been historically marginalized. The Award will feature a presentation opportunity, production resources, audience development, and mentorship from senior artists. Criteria will be announced soon. The Award will be launched as part of the 2019 Fringe Festival.
