Powwow 101

Ever wanted to learn the basics of Powwow dancing? This interactive workshop by Powwow dancer and Fringe Artist Nyla Carpentier of the Tahltan and Kaska First Nation will teach participants the Indigenous history behind the dance steps, the various dance styles, and what protocols to expect when attending a Powwow. Open to Indigenous and Non-Indigenous participants. Wear clothes that you can sweat in and move in. Bring a water bottle!

Nyla began Powwow dancing at the age of two at the Odawa Powwow in Ottawa and has over 30 years of experience. She has traveled to many Powwows and has been teaching workshops for more than 10 years.
